Tension between the U.S. and China is depressing sales of many tech companies. The impact will only grow if President-elect Donald Trump goes ahead with plans to sharply increase tariffs on goods from China. Nvidia, the leading maker of chips used in #Artificial Intelligence , has been particularly affected. The U.S. has banned sales of its most advanced chips to China; in early December, China said it had opened an antitrust investigation into the company, which still gets about 17% of its revenue from China. There’s a long list of tech companies that derive a significant share of their revenue from China and could be hurt by a broader trade war. It includes other chipmakers such as Qualcomm and Marvell Technology, manufacturers of chipmaking equipment such as Applied Materials and Lam Research, and electric vehicle maker Tesla, whose sales to China fell through the first nine months of this year. Topping the list is Cirrus Logic, which makes audio-processing chips used in Apple’s iPhones and other products.
