Tencent, Alibaba and other tech companies slashed jobs to cope with what some executives described as the worst business environment of their lifetimes. But a new wave of aggressive Covid-19 lockdowns this year, along with a worsening economy and mounting layoffs, have dashed the confidence in the industry. Workers who never thought they’d leave tech are now hunting for jobs in any field in which they can find them.
